Kupala [Coo-PAH-lah] – summer solstice, the main event of the year in Slavic (Russian as well) paganism. The shortest night of the year. From the spring ardent love to the time of thunderstorms, to birth of the new life.

In the Occident tradition Litha is no more than one of the holidays, but for Russian pagans Kupala is the core of the year.
